Hope you are having a great day today. I have been enjoying several books by Donald Miller, he writes on several different topics and I have been reading his book Scary Close and Story Brand.
Two extremely different books, Story Brand is a fantastic book about marketing and Scary Close is more about relationships. I wanted to share what he wrote in his book Scary Close. The chapter was titled The Risk of Being Careful and I thought this was worth sharing.
As a writer Donald found himself worrying about what people were going to say or think if he wrote this or that and it was taking him years to finish a book.
He decided one day to make a list of freedoms for himself and his writing, but I feel we can apply these several ways to our own life:
I am willing to sound dumb.
I am willing to be wrong.
I am willing to be passionate about something that isn’t perceived as cool.
I am willing to express a theory.
I am willing to admit I’m afraid.
I’m willing to contradict something I’ve said.
I’m willing to have a knee-jerk reaction, even a wrong one.
I’m willing to apologize.
I’m perfectly willing to be perfectly human.
What I love about this, is be willing to be who you are. We need each other more than ever right now and no reason to judge. People are more fragile than you could possibly imagine.
What would you add to this list?
Hope this was as good for you as it was for me.
Have an awesome day!
